Our site is devoted to providing for the exchange of ideas and experiences toward helping public agencies incorporate sustainable and environmentally conscious practices into the business of government.
Now more than ever, constituents across all types of jurisdictions are increasingly calling for green and sustainable practices to be made priority in their local government agencies as the carbon footprint of society becomes increasingly measurable and its impacts cause for concern. Government agencies face the challenge of responding to these calls while responsibly managing the limited resources they have and navigating what can be incompatible political pressures.
GreeningGovernment.org is committed to providing officials, managers, staff and citizens a means in which to cooperatively look at systems available to assess current processes in place, advance green practices, establish appropriate and meaningful benchmarks, evaluate results, and accurately report on successes and ongoing challenges.
Greening Government also provides an opportunity for government practitioners to discuss real short- and long-term challenges to incorporating green practices into the business of government while managing shifting resources and competing priorities.
